The percentage of Service Members sustaining a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) who are still experiencing "persistent symptoms and difficulty in rehabilitation" three or more months after the injury, according to a recent article in the Journal of Family Practice -- Neuroendocrine dysfunction following mild TBI: When to screen for it

According to the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, there have been 287,861 "DoD Worldwide Medical Diagnoses of TBI" from 2000 through Q3 of 2013. The Journal of Family Practice article says that 80-85% of those injured will make full recovery within three months. For the remaining patients who are still suffering, the article suggests that neuroendocrine dysfunction (NED) should be considered, triggering the need for laboratory studies "to detect deficiencies in pituitary and other key hormones."
