CDP News: Sept. 9, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This week was a short week due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, but there’s still plenty to talk about.

This week we opened up registration to the public for an online training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) that will be held next Wednesday and Thursday. There are only a few more spots available in this training and sign-ups will close on Monday, so if you’re interested in taking part, sign up soon! Registration is also currently available for our next online Prolonged Exposure (PE) training on 20-21 September. We are also holding a suicide prevention training on 12-13 October. All of these events will be held via Second Life.  If you’d like to be notified when we open registration for future online events, just complete this form and we’ll email you with information about new events as they go live.

We’ve also got a couple of great webinars coming up in the next few weeks. From noon to 1:30 p.m. on 21 September we’ll be holding the latest CDP Presents, Dr. Craig Bryan will deliver a webinar on “Brief Interventions for Suicidal Military Personnel and Veterans”.  Then we’ll be kicking off our Couples Webinar Series on 26 September with “An Intervention Model for Working with Military Couples Who Have Experienced Infidelity” from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration for the couples webinar is $5 and comes with two CE credits.

In addition to our online events, we’ve got some in-person events coming up as well. First up, is the Rocky Mountain Regional Civilian 1-Week Training program in Denver, CO from 24-28 October. Registration for this event is $95 and comes with 34 Continuing Education credits. For more information about this event, click here for the agenda, CE details, hotel info and more. If you can’t make it out to Denver, we’ll also be headed to Charleston, SC this fall. Keep an eye on our upcoming training calendar for details!

This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Augusto Ruiz, entitled “Ride to Recovery: The Never Ending Adventure”. Dr. Reynolds talks about his experiences with the Ride 2 Recovery program and the Service members and Veterans who take part in the program’s long-distance bike rides. It’s great to get an inside look at the struggles, triumphs, and challenges faced by the participants. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.

That’s it for this time around. We hope everyone has a great weekend! Come back and check us out  next again next week for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” column.
