CDP News: Oct 28, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It’s finally starting to feel like fall here at the CDP headquarters, but the change in seasons isn’t slowing us down any!
First up, we’d like to thank all of our participants of this week’s Rocky Mountain Regional Civilian 1-Week Training program out in Denver, CO. It was another great training event and we couldn’t have done it without all of you, so thanks again! There’s no time to recover, as we’re already working on our next week-long event. Online registration is ongoing for the one-week training event in Charleston, South Carolina, which will run from 5-9 December. If you’re looking to enhance your skills working with a military population, these events are a exceptional opportunity to learn about a wide variety of topics. Registration for this event is $95 and comes with 34 CE credits. For more information or to sign up, check out the event page here.
If you can’t travel or are looking for opportunities closer to home, we’ve got those as well. The CDP is once again proud to support the Joining Forces Wellness Week, 7-11 November. This week will feature a series of hour-long webinars, from noon to 1 p.m. eastern, every day focusing on topics regarding the health of Service members, Veterans, and their families. Participants who attend and complete a short post-training survey/evaluation will be eligible to receive one free Continuing Education credit (CE). Click here to learn about the specific topics for each day’s session or to register for the courses.
Next Friday we’ll be holding our first ever University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) in an online environment. If you work with Service members or Veterans in higher education, you’ll definitely want to sign up. This program is designed to address the social, cultural, clinical, and campus-specific concerns of Service members and Veterans. It’s intended for both clinical and non-clinical campus personnel. This is the first time we’ve done this online, but we hope to make it a regular part of our training rotation. Head over to the event page for more information or to sign up.
This week in the CDP blog, our Staff Perspective column was by Dr. Paula Domenici entitled “Back in the PE Therapist Seat”. Dr. Domenici writes about getting back to using PE therapy with a client, after a long break from delivering clinical care. She discusses her thoughts and struggles in this process. It’s a great read for anyone looking to restart using PE or even for those looking to start for the first time. Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful links from around the Web.
That’s all for this time. Get out there and enjoy the weekend. We’ll see you on Monday for Halloween and a new “By the Numbers” column.
