CDP News: May 20, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This was a busy week, as we had multiple events going on, both in the real and virtual worlds!

First up, we spent all week in Boise, ID to hold our Regional Civilian One-Week training event. It was a great event and we’re always glad to meet so many providers! We’ve got another session coming up in another couple of weeks. Registration is live for the 13-17 June event in Columbus, OH. If you’re interested in more information or you’d like to sign up, click here. If you can’t make it to Columbus, but would like to be notified about future locations of the One-Week Civilian Training program, please fill out this form.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we were in New Paltz, NY for the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. Then we also visited Bloomington, IN on Wednesday and Thursday for an SBHP training event. Next Tuesday and Wednesday, the SBHP program will take us to Michigan for another event. For more information about this program or to find out how to get involved, click here.

As if all those face-to-face events, weren’t enough, we also held a two-day training on suicide prevention in Second Life on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was the first time we’ve held this topic via Second Life and we’re already looking forward to doing it again! Registration is currently available for our Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) training which will be held 22-23 June. These events are always very popular and fill up quickly. If you’re interested in attending, sign up soon.

Speaking of online events, we posted the recording of the most recent CDP Presents webinar “Mindfulness-Based Intervention for Service Members and Veterans,” led by Dr. Andy Santenello and Dr. Matthew Sacks. If you missed it, be sure to head over to the CDP Presents section of the site and watch it. While you’re there, you can also sign up for the next CDP Presents event on 22 June, entitled “Reconceptualizing Resilience and Growth in the Wake of Trauma,” which will be led by Dr. David Riggs and Dr. Kelly Chrestman.

In the CDP blog this week, Dr. Debra Nofziger wrote about her thoughts on a contentious issue in “Patients Recording Sessions – Anxiety All Around”. This is an especially important topic with recent relatively high-profile instances of patients secretly recording sessions, as well as the rise of audio editing technology that can distort the “truth” of a recording. Dr. Nofziger talks about her concerns, as well as those of her colleagues.  Also, don’t forget to check out this week’s Research Update. It’s packed with all the latest news, journal articles and useful link  from around the Web..

That’s all for this time around. We hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy some beautiful May weather, wherever you may be! We’ll see you back again on Monday for the latest entry in our “By the Numbers” series!
