CDP News: July 24, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We’re heading into the dog days of summer, but we’ve still got plenty of stuff coming up!
This week we sent trainers across the country for the Star Behavioral Health Providers program. On Wednesday and Thursday, CDP staff were in Columbus, GA and Indianapolis, IN to provide training on evidence-based therapies at these events. This week we trained on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and Prolonged Exposure (PE), respectively. Then next week, we’re headed out to Azusa, CA to provide a training on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Next week we’ll also be holding our latest monthly CDP Presents webinar, entitled “Women in the Military”. This free webinar will be held on Tuesday from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Eastern. The session will help prepare behavioral health providers to meet the unique needs of our female Service members and Veterans. There will be an hour of instruction, followed by a question-and-answer period. Participants who register and attend this event are eligible for one free Continuing Education Unit.
Another option for free CEUs is to check out the four-module Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals. This self-paced online course is designed to help providers gain an understanding of the importance of and breadth of military culture. Each module in the course is eligible for two CEU credits upon completion of the final exam, for a total of eight possible credits.
Also on the topic of online training, registration is ongoing for our next online PE training course held in Second Life. The training will be from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern on 12-13 August. If you’re interested in learning about PE, but are unable to make it to any of our face-to-face workshops, this could be a great opportunity to take a CDP training from the comfort of your own home or office. Registration closes on 5 August or sooner if all of the available spaces fill up, so if you’re interested in taking part, sign up soon! In it she reviewed the documentary “Lady Valor: The Kristen Beck Story,” which is about the first transgender Navy Seal to share her story via film. In addition to discussing the film, Dr. O’Reilly also provides some great resources for clinicians wanting to learn more and transgendered Service members and Veterans.
