CDP News: July 17, 2015
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. We have plenty in store for the next few weeks, so let’s get to it.
Wednesday and Thursday next week, we’ll be sending trainers to both Columbus, GA and Indianapolis, IN for the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. This program is designed to train clinical professionals on the unique needs of the military community. For more details about the SBHP program and the tiers of training, you can head to our SBHP webpage here.
We’ve started ramping up for our next two Regional 1-Week Civilian Training programs. These five-day training events are great for providers looking to enhance and expand their skills in working with a military population. We’re currently running registration for our next event, to be held in the Atlanta-metro region, 24-28 August. There are only a few spots remaining, so sign up quickly if you’re interested. If you can’t make it to Atlanta, we will also be bringing this program to the Albany, NY-area at the end of October. Keep an eye on our webpage for more details on registering for that one.
If you’re looking for training closer to home, our online training events may be of interest to you. Next up on our online EBP training scheduled will be a Prolonged Exposure training in Second Life that will be held on 12-13 August. If you’re interested in taking part, you can register and get more information here. If you’d like to be emailed when registration begins for our upcoming online events, you can sign up for our online events email list here.
Our next monthly CDP Presents webinar is rapidly approaching as well. It will be entitled “Women in the Military”. This free webinar will be held on 28 July from 1-2:30 p.m. Eastern. There will be an hour of instruction by Dr. Carin Lefkowitz, followed by a question-and-answer period. Participants who register and attend this event are eligible for one free Continuing Education Unit. We’ve also got recordings of our previous events in the series available for on-demand viewing.
Over in the CDP Blog, this week’s Staff Perspective entry was by Janet McDermott. She reviewed the book “Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs” by author Carmine Gallo. Presentations are all about conveying information and a message to your audience, large or small. She examines some of the highlights of the book and how we all can apply them in our everyday lives. Also, don’t forget to take a few minutes to read this week’s Research Update on the CDP’s Blog. It’s got all the latest news, articles and plenty of useful links related to deployment psychology.
