CDP News: Feb. 19, 2016

Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. It was a short week, due to the President’s Day holiday, but we still kept busy.

Wednesday and Thursday we visited Columbia, SC as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers program (SBHP).  Then on Thursday, we were in Fort Worth, TX presenting the University Counseling Center Core Competency (UC4) training in at Tarrant County College. Next week we’re headed to Camp Pendleton in California and Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio to deliver training on EBPs. We’ll also be in Philadelphia, PA as to present a talk for our Speakers Bureau program.

We were also active in the online realm, Dr. Diana Dolan hosted our monthly CDP Presents event entitled, “An Introduction to Chronic Pain in the Military and the Role of Behavioral Health Providers”. If you weren’t able to attend, we’ll be posting a recording of the event for on-demand viewing in the CDP Presents section soon. Registration for the next CDP Presents, “Psychological Consequences of Brain Injury and Implication for Treatment in Service Members and Veterans,” is currently available here. This training will be presented by guest speakers Dr. Johanna Wolf and Dr. Jenelle Anthony on 15 March.

Speaking of upcoming events, our upcoming Regional Civilian One-Week Training 21-25 March, in Long Beach, CA is almost sold out. If you’re interested in attending, sign up today! However, if you can’t make it to that one, we’ve also begun accepting registrations for our next iteration. This event will be 4-8 April in Des Moines, IA. In the CDP Blog this week, we looked at how behavioral health providers can get started working with a military population. This is a very common question we receive all the time, both at our face-to-face events and through the CDP website. We only provided a few, but there are a wide variety of options for those interested in working with Service members, Veterans and their families. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.

That’s all for this time around. We hope everyone has a good weekend. Join us right back here on the CDP blog for a new entry in our “By the Numbers” feature!
