CDP News: Apr. 22, 2016
Welcome to this week’s edition of CDP News! We like to use this space to review recent happenings in and around the Center for Deployment Psychology, while also looking ahead to upcoming events. This week we were busily preparing for the CDP-wide all-staff meeting next week, but we still had several events going on.
On Wednesday and Thursday, we were back in South Carolina for another presentation, as part of the Star Behavioral Health Providers (SBHP) program. We held a two-day training on Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). For more information about the SBHP program or to find out how you can take part, click here.
Also on Wednesday, we held our latest edition of CDP Presents, our monthly webinar series. This time around we had guest speakers, Dr. Amy Adler and Dr. Ann Dobmeyer, presenting on “Deploying in Response to an Infection Disease Outbreak – The Impact on Service Member Mental Health”. If you missed the presentation, we’ve posted a recording for on-demand viewing. Registration is currently available for May’s webinar, “Mindfulness-Based Intervention for Service Members and Veterans,” which will be held 11 May from noon to 1:30 p.m. Eastern. Dr. Andy Santenello will lead this presentation. As with most of our CDP Presents webinars, those who attend and complete a post-event survey and evaluation will be eligible for one free CE.
There are only two weeks left to registration for our next Regional Civilian One-Week training event. We’ll be in Boise, ID from 16-20 May. If you’d like to sign up or for more information, please click here. If you can’t make it to Boise, we’re also going to be bringing the program to Columbus, OH on 13-17 June. Registration isn’t open yet, but If you would like to be emailed when registration begins, please complete the form here.
In the CDP Blog this week, Dr. Jenny Phillips continued to spotlight the fact that April is the “Month of the Military Child” with her Staff Perspective entry, “Challenge Breeds Resilience: Recognizing the Benefits of Growing Up as a Military Child.” We often hear about the difficulties that accompany being a child of military parents, but Dr. Phillips uses her own experiences as a parent to talk about some of the positives that come along with it. The Guest Perspective blog, “Deployment, Mental Health Conditions, and Psychotropic Medications – Good to Go?”, was by CAPT James West. CAPT West discusses how some mental health conditions and the medications used to treat them can impact the deployment status of Service members. Also, don’t forget to check out the Research Update as usual, it’s got all the latest news, articles, and useful links related to deployment psychology.
That’s all for this time around. Have a great weekend everyone. Next week may be a bit slow on the updates, as most of the CDP Staff will be at our annual all-staff meeting, but we’ll still have some content for you, so be sure to visit the site!
