The percentage of Gulf War II Veterans (Post-9/11) living in poverty, according to a recent analysis by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) -- Veteran Poverty Trends (PDF). While this is a higher percentage than among Veterans who served during earlier combat eras (Gulf War I, Vietnam, Korea, WWII), age is a definite factor; 11.9% of Veterans ages 18-34 are impoverished, compared to 4.9% of Veterans ages 65 and older.

The percentage of U.S. Marine Corps officers who scored -- respectively -- above 150 in the General Classification Test (GCT) in 2014 and in 1980, according to a new study from the Brookings Institution and the National Bureau of Economic Research -- Military officer quality in the all-volunteer force. The GCT, required of all officers, "is scaled similarly to IQ tests, with 100 being the mean score, and has been shown to have a strong link between intelligence and military performance," according to a media summary (PDF) of the research.

The percentage of post-9/11 Veterans who are younger than age 34, according to a recent report by the VA's National Center for Veterans Analysis and Statistics -- Profile of Post-9/11 Veterans: 2012 (PDF). The median age of post-9/11 male Veterans is 32, according to the report, and the median age of post-9/11 female Veterans is 31. For all other Veterans, the median age is 64 for males and 53 for females.
